In a world full of Meat Loaf tribute acts, there is one tribute that has been doing the rounds since 1993. Steve Steinman has taken the art of being a tribute act to the highest level over the last two decades. After an appearance on the tv show “Stars in Their Eyes” in 1993 as Meat Loaf, Steve started working all the pubs and clubs with his tribute act.

Fast forward to 2019, and he has taken it from a one man show and developed it into an all out balls to the wall, turn it up to eleven, rock music extravaganza, with a full stage production that would make some west end productions feel inadequate. Employing a full ensemble of talented musicians and dancers as well as having a production team to keep touring year after year. This is no longer a tribute act but a whole new beast in stage production albeit with the magic of Meat Loafs music being the Centrepoint. This has turned into more than just a tribute act, it is the musical that Meat Loaf never had.

For 2019, Steve had managed to rope in the vocal talents of female vocalist Lorraine Crosby, (The original female vocalist on Meat Loafs “I’d Do Anything for Love” hit single.). However, the show would require more than just Lorraine’s impressive vocals to give the waiting fans value for money, who had parted with £26.50 for their tickets.

As the lights faded to black, the unmistakable sound of the motorbike intro on “I’d do Anything for Love” reverberated around the theatre. Just before the drums kicked in, the curtain parted to reveal the band. Steve strolled on stage to a rapturous round of applause as the vocals kicked in. From the opening notes Steve had got the audience eating out of the palm of his hands. During the instrumental that leads up to the female vocals, Lorraine walked out on stage and demonstrated why Meat Loaf wanted her vocals on that single. Even decades later Lorraine has managed to keep her vocal range intact. Absolute pleasure to hear her voice live.

From that point on, it was a whirlwind tour through some of Meat Loafs biggest hits. In between the songs there was tongue in cheek dialogue, with great interaction from the crowd. It is the interaction and dialogue that sets Steve Steinman apart from all the other tribute acts, this is more of a stage show designed to showcase the incredible music of Meat Loaf rather than being a pure tribute to the rock star. Even to the point of the band extending “You Took the Words Right Out of my Mouth” because the audiences clapping went out of time with the drums, so the entire band chipped in to get the audience back on track.

Having a vocalist as talented as Lorraine sharing vocal duties, it was only a matter of time before she took centre stage and was allowed to belt out hits such as “It’s all Coming Back to me Now” and “Holding out for a Hero” without the assistance of any other vocalists.

Throughout the two and half hours, Steve and Lorraine had ploughed through the back catalogue of Jim Steinman’s and Meat Loafs creations, songs such as “Paradise by the Dashboard Light”, “Life is a Lemon”, “For Crying Out Loud” and of course the show closer “Bat Out of Hell” were all delivered with the force of a tropical storm amidst a stunning lighting display armed with pyrotechnics throughout the show.

The beauty of this stage production lies within the fundamental aim, which is to celebrate the magic of Meat Loafs music rather than to try and be Meat Loaf. And there is no doubt that Steve Steinman’s “Anything for Love” production brings the magic of Meat Loafs songs to life. With the help of incredibly talented musicians and backing dancers this becomes a tour de force of live music. Much more than just an average tribute act!

Sadly, if you missed this production, then you will be waiting quite sometime before it comes back to Mansfield. Despite performing in Mansfield for 17 years, unfortunately Mansfield Palace theatre won’t be having “Anything for Love” back in the next few years due to the venue allegedly being that busy. So if you are eager to catch one of these productions, You could catch either Vampires Rock in February at Mansfield Palace Theatre in February (They play the odd Meat Loaf song) or make the trek to Nottingham Arena on May 29th 2020 for “Anything For Love” with the Bad for Good orchestra for a night of rock anthems from the mighty Meat Loaf repertoire.

A fabulous night out and great value for money.

With pantomime season is just around the corner at Oldham Coliseum Theatre. The theatre has lined up a talented cast of familiar faces for this year’s famous festive spectacular, Jack and the Beanstalk, who will be putting the extra sparkle into Christmas in Oldham. Announced earlier this year, pantomime favourite Richard J Fletcher will be making his first outing as Pantomime Dame on the Coliseum stage after 11 years as Oldham’s beloved high-flying, heel-kicking Pantomime Comic.

Richard commented: “Being an Oldhamer, the Coliseum panto was a big part of my childhood, I couldn’t imagine spending Christmas anywhere else. It’s an honour to be asked to play the Dame”

Richard is praised year on year for his boundless energy and skilful enticement of audience participation, both on and off stage. At 2018’s cast visit to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in nearby Royton he had patients and staff in fits of laughter as they shouted out his catchphrase from Cinderella.
With Richard stepping into the extravagant wardrobe of the Dame the theatre is thrilled to announce that Sam Glen will be playing the Pantomime Comic in Jack and the Beanstalk, the titular role of Jack.

Sam will be familiar to Coliseum audiences from his previous role as Billy in the theatre’s hit production of The Kitchen Sink. Recently returned from a hit run of Letter to Boddah at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Sam is also a previous member of Oldham Theatre Workshop and appeared on BBC1’s Take That musical audition programme, Let it Shine with Gary Barlow.
Last year’s Cinderella Shorelle Hepkin returns to play Jill marking her third Christmas season at the Coliseum. Alongside her pantomime prowess, Shorelle may be familiar to audiences as Kay Lawrence in CBBC’s BAFTA nominated teen drama Wolf Blood, in which she appeared in all four seasons.

Mitesh Soni returns to the Coliseum for his second pantomime season following his performance as Baron Boothby Mothwallet in Cinderella. Mitesh has recently completed a season performing in Twelfth Night, Henry V and The Borrowers as Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre in Chester. In Jack and the Beanstalk he will be playing perhaps the most famous pantomime character of all time, the Pantomime Cow. Previously seen at the Coliseum in a heart-rendering performance as Abbie Williams in the Northern Soul Award-nominated musical Bread & Roses, Sophie Mercell will be playing Grotton. Sophie’s other theatre credits include The Ugly Duckling:

Christmas Special at Hull Truck Theatre and Let Me Play The Lion Too at Barbican, London.

Another familiar face from hit Coliseum musicals, Jenny Platt returns to the Coliseum this Christmas to play Mavis Moorside and Good Fairy Greenfield. Jenny played leading lady Mandi in the Coliseum’s musical ode to Oldham Athletic, Meat Pie, Sausage Roll, in Spring 2017. Soap fans will also recognise her from her previous role as a barmaid in the Rovers Return, as she played Violet Wilson in Coronation Street from 2004 – 2008. Last seen at the Coliseum in 2010’s production of Sleeping Beauty Patrick Bridgman returns to Oldham to play Jill’s father, Lord Thickpenny Grabbmuch. Patrick appeared in five Coliseum pantomimes between 2006 – 2010. His recent theatre credits include Oliver Twist at Hull Truck Theatre and Hymn to Love at Theatre by the Lake, Keswick.

Oldham Coliseum Theatre’s nationally renowned pantomime has been putting the extra sparkle into the festive season for generations; with all the ingredients for fantastic family fun: hit songs, silliness, a sprinkling of fairy dust and a generous helping of It’s Behind You! With two fairies, a magic hen, a GIANT and a pantomime cow, Jack and the Beanstalk is the perfect Christmas treat for kids and not-so-grown-up grown-ups.

Jack and the Beanstalk runs at Oldham Coliseum Theatre from Saturday 16 November 2019 – Saturday 11 January 2020. This year’s pantomime is sponsored by George Hill Timber and Building Supplies, Jigsaw Group and N Brown Group. Jack and the Beanstalk’s Educational Partner is Oldham Hulme Grammar School.

A Nottingham-based building supplies and plant and tool hire company has donated more than £2,000 to help students at Arnold Hill Academy complete their Gold Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) expedition in Snowdonia.
Frank Key Group in Daybook is owned by Robert Sansom, a long term supporter of Arnold Hill Academy. He pledged £200 per student to cover part of the cost of taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh expedition. The whole expedition process costs £525 per person.

Twelve students planned and completed a four-day expedition across Snowdonia National Park. The expedition is a vital component of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Roger Smith is Arnold Hill’s DofE Centre Manager. He says: “The generous contribution that the school received from Frank Key went a long way to making this expedition a reality. During the expedition, our students faced a real challenge that pushed them to the limit, both physically and mentally.

The skills they learned will benefit them greatly in years to come.
“The Duke of Edinburgh award is of huge value to young people in the jobs market. It provides a real point of difference, helping them to develop skills that will be useful in the workplace. It’s fantastic to see Frank Key investing in the future of our students.”

Robert Sansom adds: “It is a pleasure to continue our support with Arnold Hill School and its Duke of Edinburgh programme. Helping the students take part in such a life-changing scheme is truly rewarding. We take great pride in investing in our local community and helping young people succeed.

A massive well done to all of those who took part; we are sure you have all developed valuable skills and made memories for life.” The Duke of Edinburgh Award is widely acknowledged as the world’s leading achievement award for young people. To achieve an award, students take part in a host of activities including volunteering, learning a skill, getting fit, taking part in a week-long residential and planning and undertaking an expedition in wild country. www.dofe.org.

Here are some of my top tips for a Teepee Wedding

  1. The Venue – Whether it’s at home, in a field or at a wedding venue. Make sure that the land has good drainage and that the grass has been cut at least 4-5 times before installation begins. Make sure if you’re in a field that there are no divots in the ground from cattle, try to corner off an area to keep it free from cattle.
  2. Heating – This is something I am always mentioning to clients. Heaters aren’t just for winter. Okay so you may not need them during the day but when the sun drops so does the temperature! It would be a shame for everyone to be making an early dart because they’re cold, so keep the party going and hire a heater or 2.
  3. Weather – The one thing we wish we could plan! However, the best thing to do and this goes for every couple on their wedding day, whether it be an indoor venue or outdoor one, is to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. This way you have options and back up plans. We can provide you with a contingency plan for rain, wind and extreme heat. We have a weather kit which provides you with a sheltered entrance into the teepee whilst the PVC clear panel allow natural light inside too, so you can enjoy the atmosphere under canvas!
  4. Photographer/Videographer – Don’t overlook this element, we can recommend some fabulous photographers and videographers who we have worked with in the past. Those amazing memories can be relived through over and over again in different media! There is some real talent out there that will be sure to capture every element of your day and capture the funny moments you may not have even seen!
  5. Entertainment – This could be for the adults or the children! Some ideas are;
    Bouncy Castle
    Rodeo Bull
    Mobile Crazy Golf Course
    Magician
    Silent Disco
    Saxophone
    Band
    DJ
    Face-paint or Glitter Paint Artist
Garden Games – Giant Jenga, Sack Race, Connect Four etc.

The school dinners, the big classrooms and the rolling green fields outside are just some of the things the pupils at Hawthorne Primary School are loving about their new £6.3m school. The 420-place capacity school, which also has a 39-place nursery on site, is one of several new schools that has seen a multi-million-pound investment from Nottinghamshire County Council. Nine-year-old Megan said: “I absolutely love my new school. The dinner ladies are so friendly, and I love the school dinners, especially the sausages and flapjacks.

Jack, 8, said: “The classrooms are big, and we have huge windows, so we can see the pigs, cows and sheep outside. Our old school was quite small, so we have so much more space to run around in, my friends and I have had lots of fun already.”

Councillor Philip Owen, the county council’s chairman of Children and Young People’s committee, said the school was much needed in the area and he was delighted that the pupils had given it the thumbs up. Councillor Owen added: “Making Nottinghamshire a great place to raise a family is a top priority for this council, and by investing in new schools we are investing in our children’s future.” Head teacher Rachel Jarvis thanked everyone involved with getting the school ready for the new academic year.
“The staff, pupils and parents are over the moon with the school and we are now looking forward to a busy autumn both inside and outside the classroom.”

Getting married isn’t just about going on honeymoon, but it sure is an exciting plus to the whole shebang! But how do you go about milking the special occasion for all its worth? Everyone loves an upgrade and if you can’t get one when you’re going on your honeymoon then when can you? It’s the perfect opportunity to be pampered and spoiled, especially after all the stress of the wedding planning is over.

Calling first class!
There are so many moments where you might be able to wangle an upgrade when you go on honeymoon. The first is the flight. This is a lot easier to accomplish if you haven’t booked a package deal through a high street travel agency. If you’ve booked flights and accommodation separately then turning up at the airport in your finest clobber, rather than like a scruff bag (albeit a very comfy one), is a great way to find yourself boosted up to First or Business class. This is an important fact to consider as the area you want to be moved into is usually full of very well-heeled people. The next step is to arrive at the airport early. This gives you the best opportunity of nabbing any last-minute upgrades.

Don’t forget to check again when you reach the gate in case an upgrade has become available since you checked-in. Another hot tip for making it more likely to receive an upgrade is to fly on a Saturday as this is when business travellers are usually at home, meaning you have less competition.

Tell the world you’re here for your honeymoon
Once you’ve made it to your honeymoon destination the next step towards getting an upgrade is to tell everyone that you’re on your honeymoon! It’s important to do this at the right time though. Telling businesses that you’re going on your honeymoon when you make the booking tends to hike the prices up. So, you’re better off waiting until you hit the runway to mention that you’re newly-weds on honeymoon. If you’re staying in a hotel then mention at check-in that you’re on your honeymoon and ask if there are any honeymoon suites available for you to upgrade to or if there is anything they can do for you to help make your honeymoon more memorable.
Then as you go about making your precious memories whilst you are away, you need to keep speaking up.

Tell everyone you meet that you’re there on your honeymoon. You never know, it might lead to a couple of free glasses of champagne over dinner at any of the restaurants you might visit! The same can be said for any activities, excursions or day trips that you intend to do whilst you’re away.

Live like an A-lister
Of course, before you even get to this stage you need to decide on where to go! If you’re at a loss for ideas, other than knowing that you want the A-list treatment, then take a leaf out of @RocknRollBride’s book. She says that ‘If you’re looking to really go all out on your honeymoon, to have a once in a lifetime experience and to truly live it up like a rock star, then the Maldives has to be top of your list.’

A new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) facility at Uppingham Community College has taken a step forward with the appointment of a developer to undertake the works. Steele and Bray, which has been established since 1946 and has undertaken a wide-range of projects across the private and public sectors, has been selected after a competitive tender process.

Work, to repurpose accessible areas of Uppingham Community College and transform it into a bespoke learning environment for children with SEND, is now expected to start in November 2019. Construction has been phased to ensure minimal disruption to children and young people at the school and to take advantage of key opportunities over the Christmas holidays, when children are not on site.

“We are thrilled the new SEND facility at Uppingham Community College is heading in the right direction and a developer is now in place to bring this excellent and much-needed facility forward. The new facility will enable children and young people with SEND to be part of an appropriately designed and supported mainstream educational environment, enabling its new students to build a strong future and lasting relationships with their peers.” Councillor David Wilby, Cabinet Member for Rutland County Council
The Government has committed £215 million of capital funding to help local authorities create new school places and improve existing facilities for children and young people with SEND, in consultation with parents and providers. Rutland is to receive £848k Capital between 2018 and 2021 to support the £700k Capital project and other projects.

“Our ambition to create a centre of excellence for SEND provision is soon to be realised. Up until now this project has been predominately plans and drawings, and it will be excellent to see spades in the ground, as that means we will soon be providing a bespoke learning environment for children with SEND.” Ben Solly, Uppingham Community College Principal
