Nottinghamshire Police has issued these CCTV images and footage as part of a cross-border operation targeting car key burglaries.

We’d like to speak to the people pictured in connection with a spate of burglaries where suspects have broken into homes to steal car keys before taking vehicles from drives.

The video clip shows men peering through the downstairs window of a home in Caunton, Nottinghamshire, at around 2pm on 30 April 2018. The men, filmed from a camera within the property, hide their faces after realising they’d been caught on camera. Nothing was taken from the address.

Nottinghamshire Police is working closely with Derbyshire Police, Lincolnshire Police, South Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Police to identify offenders and bring them to justice as part of ‘Operation Ignite’.

Other key objectives include reducing the number of burglaries and increasing public reassurance and confidence.

The joint operation follows the creation of two new dedicated Nottinghamshire Police burglary teams which are concentrating their efforts on tackling and reducing burglary in the city and county.

The teams have been created as part of a new Force structure, moving towards a more geographic model that provides dedicated policing services for the city and county, based in the communities they serve.

Detective Inspector Steve Wragg, who leads the county burglary team, said: “We’re appealing to the public to help us identify those involved in a large number of car key burglaries and associated burglaries.

“We’ve identified 12 burglaries in Nottinghamshire which we’re connecting and which have been captured under the heading of Operation Ignite.

“This operation is being used by the quintet of Forces to capture and readily identify offences linked to a number of cross-force travelling criminals.

“Operation Ignite does identify that offences have been committed by the same organised crime group across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.

“It’s very likely that the persons pictured with this appeal do not live in Nottinghamshire but are more likely to live in one of our surrounding Force areas.”

The dates and locations of the 12 burglaries which our officers are connecting under Operation Ignite are as follows:

23 March – Newark

28 March – Sherwood

11 April – Mapperley and Southwell

30 April – Ollerton, Claypole, North Muskham, Caunton

2 May – Blyth

3 May – Worksop

7 May – Saundby

10 May – Beckingham

DI Wragg added: “Our new dedicated burglary teams and Operation Ignite are making a big push on tackling burglary and bringing offenders to justice but we still need people to help us by reporting any suspicious activity and reviewing their own home security to make themselves less of a target.

“We’re asking the public to be vigilant as we know the vast majority of burglaries are preventable as they are often opportunistic.

“Make sure your front and back doors and windows are locked even when you’re in and never leave your car keys on show through a window when not using them. Do not leave them in locks, on the window ledges or kitchen/hall tables and never on a hook behind the door or in reach of a letterbox or cat flap.

“If possible park your vehicle in a garage. If you have to park it on your driveway or on the street, consider using additional security devices, make sure the area is well lit, ensure the vehicle is secure and that nothing of value is left in it – such as tools, laptops, or money.

“If you have gates securing your driveway area make sure you keep them closed and locked.”

We’re urging anyone who recognises any of the people in our CCTV pictures and clip to call us on 101 (quoting incident number 405 of 30 April for the Caunton incident) or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Nottinghamshire Police Veterans FC are celebrating promotion after winning the league.

They secured the East Midlands Championship East in style with a thumping 6-1 win over Local Inn, of Mansfield, on Sunday (6 May).

The team are now awaiting confirmation from the League on when they will be presented with the trophy.

It means next season they will play the likes of Basford United in the East Midlands Veterans League Premiership.

The Championship win comes after the team also reached the National Police Final against Police Scotland in May last year.

Player/manager Phil Cumberpatch praised the team spirit and dedication that saw them win the league with a game to spare.

He said: “They are all decent players and we’ve managed to pull together and create a squad that plays at a decent standard but it’s more about the camaraderie than anything else.

“With the increased demands on officers and lack of time outside work I’m chuffed to bits with the commitment and the way we’ve pulled together.”

Nottinghamshire Police Veterans FC is a team for officers, staff and those with a connection to policing, who are over the age of 35. They play and train in their own time.

A man who deliberately tried to endanger life by setting fire to a block of flats has been jailed for four years and six months.

David John Ogle, 38, formerly of Exeter Road, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and one count of arson reckless as to whether life would be endangered.

He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court today (Monday 14 May 2018).

Between February and August last year, Ogle carried out two attacks on a 46-year-old woman. On one occasion he kicked and punched her multiple times. The victim is believed to have sustained a broken nose during one of the attacks and now has difficulty breathing.

On 24 August 2017, at around 5.20am, the fire service was called to a flat in Rose Close, St Ann’s. The fire burnt out the flat and then threatened to engulf those nearby; the occupants of which had to flee through the flames, some suffering burns.

In total the fire service received 14 calls to attend that evening and, following an investigation, the cause of the fire was found to have been deliberate.

A bag had been left outside the first floor flat and set alight. Witnesses and CCTV placed Ogle at the scene walking towards the property carrying a bag and then walking away empty handed.

Detective Sergeant Luke Waller said: “Ogle is clearly a very violent man with complete disregard for the lives of others.

“The horror those residents were put through will stay with them for a long time after being woken in the middle of the night in fear, I hope they now have some relief knowing that this dangerous man is behind bars.”

Police have served a closure order on a property in Eastwood in order to protect the local community from unacceptable crime and anti-social behaviour.

Neighbourhood policing officers at Eastwood have worked closely with Broxtowe Borough Council to secure the order to 86 Queens Road South.

The order was issued by Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (11 May 2018.)

Lasting initially for three months, the order prohibits anyone from living at, or entering, the premises at any time. If anyone breaches the order they will be committing an offence and be liable to imprisonment and/or a fine.

Sergeant Andy Browning, Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant for Eastwood, said: “I’m pleased that the court has issued the closure order on this address. The police and our partners have not taken decisions lightly but, as this case shows, various agencies were engaged throughout the process regarding the closure, including Social Services, local schools and health care.”

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for the Broxtowe borough Inspector Simon Riley also backed the closure. He said: “Where appropriate we will use the powers available to us to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and to improve the quality of life for residents in Broxtowe borough.

“This closure order is the result of several months’ worth of hard work from Sergeant Browning and his team and I would like to personally thank them for their efforts.

“Hopefully, this demonstrates to the people of Broxtowe that we are serious about dealing with crime and anti-social behaviour in the borough and that anyone causing misery and negatively affecting the lives of others can expect the full weight of the law to be applied.”

Councillor Eric Kerry, Chairman of the Housing Committee, said: “The council takes anti-social behaviour very seriously and works closely with partners to bring about effective solutions to anti-social behaviour in our communities.

“The council and the police take action such as closure orders very rarely but, where circumstances dictate, the council and the police are prepared to take the strongest possible sanctions afforded in the legislation to bring about positive resolutions and bring respite to communities being affected.”
